Bullet-riddled BearCat on display today

.
La Crosse County’s BearCat armored vehicle will be on public display at 4:45 p.m. today between the county Administrative Center and the Health and Human Services Building.

Last week, a rural Richland County man fired hundreds of rounds of high-caliber ammunition at the BearCat during a standoff, but the occupants of the vehicle were unharmed. The man later surrendered.
The county board will issue a proclamation at 6 p.m. commending the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department for its leadership in helping resolve the incident.

" Teresias,
I'm afraid we will disagree.
The framers were crystal clear in their fear of government. They took great pains to limit it and came up with the BILL OF RIGHTS as an example. It is fact that their biggest fears revolved around the problems associated with government, especially a strong central government. "

" Donatello, are you really that stupid? Look at your last post--supposedly "anti-government" people founded a government and wrote the documents that created a government. Hello? Can you recognize the disconnect?
The founding fathers were not anti-government. They were opposed to someone who ruled by fiat from afar and who was disconnected from the lives of everyday people. His name was George, just like today. "

" I wasn't fortunate enough to witness the "Bearcat on Display." (Traffic was backed up for miles on 4th St, with the lane closings on West Avenue)

To those that did see it up close & personal,and really do care;

1. Will it be 'Parade Ready' by Memorial Day?
2. Will the tax evader be roped to the hood? "

" I would never suggest that this guy was anything but a thug, with his stupid anti-goverment stance. However, this is typical small town cop crap. Send a tank after some dumb fool with a gun, and then tout yourselves as heroes when he shoots a bunch of rounds at you. Then, worse, use the whole thing as a jusification for an idiotic waste of money. Do cops end standoffs are start them?! "

" Everyone that signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution was anti-government.
You people must benefit from government and the corruption or the nepotism power trip.
Sheep being led to the slaughter.
To the person that thinks "I" should move...You never left your allegiance to King George. "

" Oh, yes, MK, by all means, vote for the knucklehead who promises to lower taxes. Never mind that we, as Americans, pay far less in taxes than anyone else in the world. Also ignore the fact that taxes as a percentage of income in real, constant dollars has been dropping for decades.
Also ignore the fact that our infrastructure is collapsing, people are dying on the streets for lack of health care and that George Bush, in his fervor to prove his manhood to his daddy, is spending our treasury into massive deficits in a war that a failed military can never win.
Oh, but keep complaining about how burdened you are.
Here's an idea. Take your "economic stimulus refund" and buy a fiddle so you can play while the republic burns. "

Donatello wrote on Apr 15, 2008 9:22 PM:

" jailumall,
I just sold five guns for $50. They all worked, I thought they were collectible, the gun people said they were not worth a thing.
The guy was wronged, his property damaged...justice and his public servants failed him, and he was backed up to the wall, what did you expect? "

Richard Cranium wrote on Apr 15, 2008 8:52 PM:

" To mk: I'm voting for one of them whether taxes go up or not. How are we going to pay off Bush's debt? Any ideas? Any specific ideas? "

jailumall wrote on Apr 15, 2008 5:14 PM:

" Hmm let's see! The news article stated that this man had over 50 guns in his house. 50 guns X $200.00 average equals $10,000.00. Would have been more than enough to pay the taxes if he had sold them. "

" Well put MK, it really is SCARY to think of how many people actually think this freak was RIGHT to take his anger and frustration out on law enforcement. So he didn't want to pay his taxes...either do I but I know that there are things that I have to do and I do them. If he doesn't like it, he should pack up and go live in the wilderness with the wolves and coyotes where nobody will bother him. Give me a break, I hope they throw the book at this idiot. Seriously, you people that agree with how he went about "proving his point" really need help!! "

" I know a few elderly people who have trouble paying their taxes, they however voice their problems in a proper manner and find a way to make ends meet. It is sick how some of you are standing up for a man who could have taken many lives because of his irrational response to a problem. Just because you live in a society that you feel is "screwing you over" doesn't give you the right to try to take other human life. "

" Interesting! The Bearcat that could not be shown or photographed when it was delivered will now be on display with battle scars from the "worst" firefight in Wisconsin's history (quote from law enforcement officials). How does this compare with the Battle of Bad Axe where hundreds of Native Americans including unarmed women, children and the elderly were massacred? "

" Tax Justice your comments (besides the many misspellings and misuse of grammar) make no sense. Are you implying that this maniac only shot at cops with a high powered rifle because of the vehicle they were driving? Any man who would willing shoot at another human being would do it no matter what type of vehicle the other people are sporting. This vehicle potentially saved the lives of many good police officers. What's the deal with people like you? You would rather forsake the safety of others to save a few tax dollars. What's wrong with you? "

Teiresias wrote on Apr 15, 2008 8:36 AM:

" Can I just get some clarification?
Wasn't this tank bought with a "homeland security" grant after 9-11 to deal with terrrrrrrrrists in LaCrosse? "

medic wrote on Apr 15, 2008 7:26 AM:

" Tax justice.....you would p*ss and moan if you were hung with a new rope! What are they supposed to do? The police depts did a good job of ending that deal, NO ONE GOT HURT, good guys or bad guys. At the end of the day what more matters? "

tax justice wrote on Apr 15, 2008 7:18 AM:

" The bullet ridden Bear Cat Taxpayer Wast of Dollars Tank proves on thing...violence begets more violence. Hundreds of rounds shot at a tank coming closer and closer to your home...it doesn't take an scholar to figure out that he would shoot at a tank. It also sends a great message out to people who really believe all the wonderful conspiracies about the local police, the feds taking over America. It will perpetuate more violence, not less. Note the pipebombs recently placed in La Crosse County mailboxes. Is there a connection? I hope not, but don't be surprised. Desperate people do desperate things. "
